Petition Correction
Petition Correction
Feb 24th, 10
Based on the interpretation of the Rules of the Rocky Mountain Horse Association I believe that I have made an error on the number of members eligible to sign petitions as of December 31, 2009.
Rules of the Rocky Mountain Horse Association
PETITIONS
5. Provisional Period
The Member must complete a Provisional Period of six months before attaining the status of an Active Member.
2. Publication of nominations and Petitions
After publication of the list of nominated candidates a thirty (30) day period exists in which names may be added to the ballot by a petition of the membership. Any such petition must contain the valid signatures of ten percent (10%) of the members of the Association eligible to vote as of December 31st of the year prior to the election.
The interpretations of the Rules means that the member has to have joined no later than June 30, 2009 to be eligible to sign petitions as they would have reach the status of active members as of December 31, 2009.
Going back to that list of those that have joined prior to June 30, 2009, that number comes to 1,144, when we add the two memberships eligible to vote as a family we have to add an additional 250 as the 1,144 only list a family membership without the second voting member. Thus the total of members eligible to sign petitions as of December 31, 2009 is 1,393. Ten percent of that number is 139 needed to sign a petition to put individuals on the ballot.
I had previously sent out to the president those eligible to vote in the election which was 2,444 thus requiring 244 signatures.
My apologies for this error.
