CHANGES TO THE RMHA BOARD-EFFECTIVE APRIL 20, 2023

The RMHA regrets to inform that Gina Purdue has resigned as President, effective April 20, 2023. We wish Gina all the best in her next ventures and thank her for her Board service and contributions over the past several years. As per RMHA By-Laws, the Vice President, Janet Peters, has assumed the position of President. In addition, the President shall appoint, with approval of the Board, a qualified person to complete the term of Vice President.

As a result, the RMHA is soliciting Letters of Interest for the vacant position of Vice President. These letters are to be no more than 1 page in length and must be submitted to the RMHA office manager, Lori Nelson, by 5 pm ET, May 1st to the email admin@rmhorse.com. Letters should include:

  • A brief statement of why you are interested in the position
  • How you would help the President and Executive Committee accomplish the long-term strategic plan goals and the short term annual plan goals
  • How you would help improve board trust and transparency and move the association to a positive and safe work/meeting environment
  • Demonstrated accomplishments for the RMHA (board or committee) or equivalent for other organizations
  • Letter of Interest can include references or endorsement statements and if included those must include full names and contact phone numbers and emails

Job Description and Requirements:

  • The Vice President (VP) shall assist and advise the President, shall serve as a member of the Rules Committee and shall act as a resource and advisor to the Board with respect to the Rules of the RMHA. The Vice President shall preside at meetings of the Board in the absence of the President or at the request of the President. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Vice President shall not preside at any meeting or part thereof which is being held for the purpose of hearing an appeal from the Hearing Panel on a matter in which he sat as a member of the Hearing Panel. In the event of the removal, resignation or vacancy in the office of the President, the Vice President shall immediately assume the office and duties of President. The Vice President shall serve as presiding officer of the Hearing Panel. The Vice President shall carry out such other duties as are assigned to the office by the Board and the Rules.
  • The term of this position is approximately 1- ¼ years – expiring after the conclusion of the 2024 International Show.
  • The VP will take an integral, if not lead role on the Strategic Planning Committee.
  • RMHA Committee or commensurate experience required
  • A demonstrated history of building teams and working on governance documents (rules, bylaws, procedures documents) a plus

 

  • You must have :
  • been an RMHA member for at least a full and continuous four years (48 months) to submit your letter of interest
  • must attend 2/3 of scheduled Board meetings (one unexcused absence is allowed per year)
  • a thorough familiarity with the By-laws and Rules of the RMHA and the Strategic Plan and the current Annual/Operational Plan
  • working knowledge of Roberts Rules of Order
  • familiarity with the rules and procedures of the Hearing Panel or a demonstrated equivalent experience
  • access to a computer and ability to receive and send email communication with the Board and membership
  • time and resources to attend/travel to meetings and accomplish RMHA and Committee Goals
  • one-team attitude and commitment to creating a positive environment

As an appointed VP, you are expected to understand the Performance and Code of Conduct requirements and you will be required to sign and maintain an updated Code of Conduct and NON Disclosure Agreement. (NO EXCEPTIONS).

Letters of Interest will be reviewed and a shortlist of candidates will be interviewed. The chosen candidate will be presented to the Board for approval.
